Our friend Joel Briggs passed away on May 1 after a 15-day last battle in the hospital. This is such lousy and sad news. Joel had been struggling with lung disease for years. He finally resorted to a long-awaited lung transfer and it looked like that would be his rescue. But after several months of struggle, the end finally came.

Joel was our immediate past referee/risk manager and came to almost every board meeting with oxygen bottle in tow and always a funny quip or two. He was a frequent volunteer for SCMA and Shamrocks events and held various board positions for the Shamrocks--including chairman.

Joel had a great chuckle and friendly way about him that made any group of riders a better bunch of friends. He was generous, optimistic and just one happy man.

When we get more information about funeral arrangements we'll convey them here. In the meantime, please let your riding buddies that knew Joel about this sad news.

Joel, we are going to miss you.
