Post Lost another SCMA member...
on: February 26, 2013, 12:42

For those of you that haven't already heard, longtime SCMA member Terry Smith, from Chloride, AZ. has passed away. He died at his home on February 16th, and services will be held this coming weekend for him. There will also be a second service held for him on March 16th, at the small town gathering for Chloride, AZ.

Terry Smith was a longtime member of the SCMA, and the IBA. He has previously been webmaster for the 3 Flags Classic, as well as other positions within the SCMA. While he has not been medicaly able to ride for several years now, he has tried to stay active with the motorcycle riding community.

Terry was a close friend to me, and I will miss him. If Ray B. or Holley H. have any further info on this, they can post it here.

Terry was the SCMA webmaster until late 2012 when we went over to this new system. While I was SCMA Vice Chairman and then as Chairman, I depended on Terry at least once per week to add something, edit something or construct something for the old website. If you sensed any incremental improvements over the last two or three years, they were a direct result of Terry's work on the website.
He was also a trusted adviser and counselor. As a direct, somewhat crusty, experienced and smart guy, I got welcomed insight from him. We didn't always agree, but we were always respectful. He was right most of the time. He fed me some of the most hilarious and interesting jokes, articles and videos. He was a bit philosophical, a bit of a bad boy, an old wild West buff, an avid Second Amendment guy and very kind.
The funny thing is, I never met him. Long before we started working together on SCMA website business, he had fled Southern California for the sake of his pulmonary health to Chloride, AZ. I had always intended to ride out someday just to meet him face-to-face. But like the song says, someday never comes. There's a lesson there for all of us. Let's all convert "someday soon" to "on my way". For the sake of ourselves. For the sake of the people we love and respect. And for the sake of the memory of a crusty old guy from Chloride.

See you on the road
