Post Bun Burner GOLD! IBA Extreme Ride

😕 Ok, what gives guys? All this time and not 1 person popping in a cool ride or bragging? Y'all being too conservative or prim and proper?

Ok, I'll kick it off. Yes, I am going to brag so if u do not want to hear it, then click away my friend. If u r interested in a true story, then grab a cup-a-joe, put yer feet up, sit back, and enjoy this true story.

There are 2 BEST rides I ever took and that is with all seriousness the Four Corner Tour 'n this one. Below is all about "this one".

THAT's IT! I had it with CRAPPY stock speakers popping out low wattage so after research I found HOG TUNES in Barre Canada who will DOUBLE my wattage and put in an amp to drive it. I fired them up on the tele and they were going to send the components to me. HAH! No freaking way!!! I have a hard enough time figuring out how to screw in a light bulb and u want me to put in my own stereo. WTF?!?!?! NOT going to happen.

I told them I'll ride up there and THEY can install it and I will be happy to pay for factory installation. They said ok and asked where I am from. I said S.E. Florida. They said "What? Where?" I repeated what I said, "S.E. Florida".

They said they had installers down here in Ft. Lauderdale and West Palm Beach. I thought why would I go to local installers and cheat myself out of a ride to Canada? Hell, I go to Texas to have boots made for me why not go to Canada.

I said, no thank you. I'll come up to you guys. How much is the installation? With surprise in their voice, he gave me a price I could not resist for the purchase as well as the installation.

I scooted up to Canada to find my GPS did not have the proper maps in and had me riding out in a field or going east when I should be going west and grrrr.........I finally got there. Upon installation he asked again where I was from and I told him. He said, "How much am I charging you?" I told him and he took another $50 bucks off. How do you beat that? Really cool.

I got there early and they where incredibly accommodating as well as super friendly and professional. I loved the time I spent with them, but this story is not really about all the stuff I said so far. 😎 It is really about what happened in the morning. HAH!

The hotel where I was staying is exactly 1,499 miles from my house. So I "figgered", IBA has a Bun Burner GOLD ride where if u ride 1,500 miles under 24 hours you may qualify for the certificate. Hmmmm....... actually I knew about the 1,500 miles under 24 hours for the Bun Burner, my good friend GlideRider told me about the Bun Burner GOLD.

Figuring if 1,499 miles is not far enough to ride in 24 hours so my sights were to go to Pompano Beach Service Plaza on the Florida Turnpike since that will be 15 miles maybe further than I needed to assure I do not short myself. How horrible would that be? Yikes!

In short, I slide onto my saddle at 8:34AM and rode into Palm Beach County 1,500 miles later at 8:14AM just under 24 hours later. WHAT WICKED FUN!!!!!! What an adrenalin rush!!!

The high points was screaming down coming down I think it was I-87 in West Virginia what I thought was about 1p or 1:30p in turning a long right hand sweeping turn to see I am on an EXACT COLLISION COURSE with a bear. I almost pooped 'me pants.

Knowing there was a car a little behind me to the left, as I was in the right lane, I could slam my brakes on and likely T-Bone the bear or hopefully turn left to get around the bear except he was walking into that path. At the moment I decided to swerve left to get around the bear, he saw me (and/or the car behind me to the left) and turned around and headed back into the forest.

I am VERY sure the driver to the car to my left was experiencing bulging eyeballs and was wondering what was going to happen here with a bike versus bear episode.

Either way, I immediately looked at both of my clocks and it was about 4:30 PM. I was pissed. 1) They day was going by too fast and 2) I am always on the lookout for critters. And on extra "lookout duty" come late afternoon. Had I been smarter and realized it was late afternoon where the critter time is in a higher activity mode, I may not have been in such a compromising situation. Either way, if there were a collision it would have been 100% my fault. Nope, I will not say I was going too fast, I am going to plead the 5th here.

Ok, that was 1 of the high points. The 2nd one was probably I-26 in Georgia when I say my 1st sign for Florida. I thought "Oh crap. This ride is almost over." I was not a happy camper. But got over it knowing I am fortunate enough to even be able to make a ride like this. I have my health, limbs, a great bike, GREAT TUNES, etc..... I am appreciative.

The 3rd high point? Rolling into Palm Beach County as my odometer turned 1,500 miles. IBA is a FANTASTIC, an absolutely GREAT organization and I know I better ride OVER the 1,500 miles since when they validate the ride and see with the mapping software they use I am under 1,500 then it is a "no go" on the certificate so I ran over and on down the road happily.

The following is going to sound really stupid to most of you but it is true, I love to ride, and it is what it is. When I come home from a ride, be it local to the store or if I was gone for weeks, (mind u I ride literally 1-3 times per day), I almost never come right home. 😉 I always ride either around a little local park near my house or around a few clocks near my house b4 I ride into my garage. That way I can always get a little more of a ride in. And yes, after cruising over 1,500 miles under 2 hours, I did take my celebratory ride the local park.

Ok, now I have to things to share with you:
1) I had fun relating 1 of the 2 BEST ever rides with you which I enjoyed.
2) Now it is your turn to share a ride or 2 with us. Ok? You read this far so u must enjoy this stuff so please "pay it forward" and share with us. Like it has been said, "It ain't bragging if it is true."

I look forward to hearing your story/ies.

Knowing Buzzcap, when he got there he probably forgot why he went there in the first place!

Once his wife sent him to the store to pick up some groceries and 2 days later he called her from Texas telling her he got the BBQ ribs! Huh?

Hi there my friend! YES!!! Even if I got lost, never found the place and came home with an ice cream. It is the RIDE that made the trip, so far never the product or service that I went for.

The quality is FANTASTIC!!! And the amperage/power is 100% better. 40 watts to 80 watts/speaker as I recall.

When riding, the only change I can pick up (considering I wear ear plugs 99% of the time) is that it is louder, no distortion, and can make out the words.music with greater clarity.

When riding, I can only effectively here the front speakers anyways.

When I am stopped without earplugs it is truly a super delight! HOG TUNES did a super job.

The way they treated me so nicely at the factory it made me feel like I was some big celebrity or superstar. It was a fantastic trip in every way. Well, excluding when I almost T-boned by a bear. 😕

I would certainly recommend that or any ride and would rate HOG TUNES highest you can on any scale.

🙂 okay Mr. funny guy. LOL!!!

The real funny thing here The California Kid, is that you are more on target than off target. LOL!!!

At least if my wife wants to scold me she will not be able to find me because I am riding around all the time. LOLOL!!! Ooops, she has my cell phone number. 'doh!

Hey, should I share with everyone the time you came out of the pub slightly inebriated, slid into the saddle of the wrong bike and took off? LOL!! Ok, I will not say anything about that. 😎

Now, I'm not sure if I want to take him up on his offer showing me that shortcut to circumvent traffic from Homestead to Key West? I may end up in Kentucky.....................LOL

Just kidding BuzzCap7

I'm not sure I want to continue this banter with Buzzcap. He has an interesting sense of humor and anything is possible. By the way, I wasn't inebriated, but I liked your bike better so I left the keys in the ignition of my bike and took yours.

As for the detour Buzzcap suggested to Elliot... your safe. He knows his roads!

TCK & Elliot,

You are funi guys!

I got my head patted like a good boy and butt kicked like a bad boy. No wonder why I twitch a lot and had to go back on prozac. 🙁

No worries.....I love the humor.

Hi Bought an older H.D. Ultra Classic ,a 2003 to be exact. Mint condition, but the stock speakers and sound sucked so I also put in the HOG tunes system.Difference is amazing tosay the least. I am embarking on 4-corners toward end of May from Blaine, and plan on finishing up in K.West. Bill.
