I plan or make this ride in June of 19 starting in San Ysidro, Ca. I'll be coming in from Dallas, appox June 10. Is there anyone that is planning on making this ride during the same time period?

What route will you be using to head east?

D1 Blaine to Seattle, 90 to Sheridan wy D2 Sheridan to Sioux Falls down 29 to 80, 80 to Des Moines. D3 Des Moines 80 to Gary to 90 to 94 to 69 to Sarnia, 402 to London then 401 to Whitby. D4 401 to Montreal then TCH to 85 to Edmunston/Madewaska. This is initial plan but should work. If any problems seen please let me know.

Where is a good place to stay over night in the San Ysdiro area? I'll be headed in from Dallas, will stay over night in the area.

I have twice stayed at the Quality Inn and Suites Near the Border with no complaints.

Nice to hear. What is the best way to navigate around LA going north?

Go to bed early, get up in middle of night and git. Sorry, every time I've gone through I get lots of time to look at scenery. Last time from hotel to north of LA took about 5 hours leaving at approx 7am. Hopefully somebody has a better idea

There really is no quick way to navigate around LA. If you are riding M - F , you will hit a lot of traffic, heavy at times, from San Diego to LA. On Saturday or Sunday, it is much lighter and normally riding northbound you will not hit a lot of traffic until the noon hour and beyond, as long as there are no accidents on the road. Two weeks ago, we rode from the LA area to San Diego for the Missions Tour, leaving early in the morning on a Sunday. We rode back north around 10:30 am and made it home in about 2.5 hours with a couple slow downs. Monitor the traffic the day you plan to ride north from San Diego. There are a couple options like taking the 57 or 605 north from the 5 to the 210 west, which will put you back on the 5 north of LA. This can sometimes save time depending on the traffic conditions. The 5 has a carpool lane into LA County as does the 57 and 605. Remember that lane splitting is legal in CA if you feel comfortable doing that . If you do decide to ride early to avoid traffic around that 3 -4 am window, I would recommend avoiding the carpool lane, as I seem to read monthly about a wrong way driver in the carpool lane.
