MRA Rules

The Mother Road Adventure (MRA) is represented by two distinct ride challenges, an Eastern and Western segment, each of which is approximately 1139 miles in length.

Western Segment – 26 Checkpoints – 4 States

Eastern Segment – 28 Checkpoints – 5 States

In order to have your completion of either segment of the MRA challenge certified by the SCMA you must meet the following objectives:

For each checkpoint on either the Eastern or Western segment, take a single photo that clearly identifies you, your bike, bike license plate, and the specific checkpoint.

  • If circumstances do not allow all elements in a single photo, then one photo of you and the bike along with a second photo of the bike and license plate from each checkpoint can be submitted for credit.
  • There are no restrictions as to the time-of-day your photos are taken but the elements required in the photo must be clearly visible.
  • You are NOT required to submit photos of the same bike for all checkpoints. It is acceptable to switch bikes during the year you are riding the MRA and get credit for a checkpoint.

Ensure all photos have a time stamp providing the time and date the photo was taken.  All phones embed this data directly within the photo, usually with even a location, so nothing special need be done when using your phone camera.

  • No gas or store receipts are required or accepted for credit of a checkpoint.

All checkpoints of either MRA segment must be completed within the calendar year for certifying the challenge.

Most importantly, enjoy a wonderful ride seeing select wonders and history of the Mother Road, Route 66.

  • This is a great opportunity to relax on a vacation with the bike. Along with plenty of sights and museums to visit there are countless unique small food establishments with their own history of the road. Enjoy the food and eat often!
  • Keep in mind that many of these small towns and venues are closed on Sundays. Plan accordingly if you wish to stop and visit.  Though a checkpoint may be closed if does not prevent getting the photo required in order to receive credit for the checkpoint.

Submitting Documentation to Certify your Ride:

Records for this Adventure are captured and submitted electronically. No other forms of submission of your ride records will be accepted for certifying your completion of the challenge.

Refer to the Electronic Ride Journaling page for SpotWalla tips.

When you have completed the ride members will be able to visit the MRA Certification tab on the SCMA website and request to have their ride completion certified.  We will announce when the certification process including ordering swag is ready later this year.

Certified Finishers will be invited to attend Finishers’ celebrations.
